Trocano Project Teams Up with Local Partners to Deliver Urgently Needed Materials for Social Centre Repairs.
On 31 July 2025, the Trocano Araretama REDD+ Project partnered with IDAM and the Borba Municipal Government to deliver urgently needed construction materials to the São Raimundo community in PA Puxurizal. The materials will support the reconstruction of the Social Centre of the Association of Rural Producers of Nova Esperança (ASPRONE). This communal centre, located at kilometre 3 of the INCRA Branch, is a key space for meetings, training local producers, and community development.
Building Together: A Multi-Stakeholder Approach
The delivery was a joint effort between the Trocano Project team, the Amazonas State Institute for Sustainable Agricultural and Forestry Development (IDAM), and the Borba Municipal Hall. Among those in attendance were:
Mr. Lourival Nascimento – Technical Assistant from INCRA and IDAM
Mr. Aldecy de Melo – Municipal Secretary of Works, Borba
Mr. Jorge Felipe – Project Manager, Trocano Araretama Project
Mr. Alneílson da Silva Vale – Legal representative of ASPRONE
The donation included: 60 Brasilit roof tiles (2.44m x 0.50m) and 40 bags of cement (42.5kg each). These materials will be used exclusively for reconstructing ASPRONE’s Social Centre. This facility is used for training, meetings, socio-cultural events, and organisational development.
Why This Matters for the São Raimundo Community
The Social Centre plays a vital role in the community’s ability to organise, learn, and access resources. Improving this space supports the long-term goals of the Trocano Project REDD+: enabling community-led climate action, strengthening local institutions, and creating the conditions for sustainable forest stewardship.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Jorge Felipe emphasised:
This donation goes beyond materials — it’s about creating the space for knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, and community resilience.”
Adding Value Through Forest Fire Awareness
Alongside the formal handover, Environmental Consultant Raidê Ferreira delivered a technical presentation as part of the Trocano Project’s Forest Fire Awareness Campaign. The session covered:
Common causes of fires in rural Amazonian areas
Environmental and health impacts of burning
Sustainable alternatives to fire use in land management
Legal responsibilities related to fire prevention and penalties
The goal was to educate residents on safe, sustainable practices that protect both their livelihoods and the surrounding forest ecosystems — particularly during the dry season.
Community, Climate, and Conservation in São Raimundo
This initiative demonstrates how the Trocano Araretama REDD Project operates on multiple levels: delivering practical support, building institutional partnerships, and promoting climate-smart education. Through coordinated actions like this, the project helps rural communities thrive while protecting the Amazon’s biodiversity and carbon reserves.
After the formal proceedings, community members, project partners, and guests gathered for a shared breakfast — reinforcing the relationships that underpin the project’s long-term success.
